About our club

A Rotaract club is what its members make of it. Here is what we have made of ours.

Who we are

A club on the banks of the Godavari

The Rotaract Club of Rajahmundry River City brings together students and young professionals from across Rajahmundry who want to do something useful with their time — and to grow while doing it.

We are chartered under Rotary International and sponsored by our parent club, the Rotary Club of Rajahmundry River City. A Rotaract club is self-governing — we choose our own projects and raise our own funds — but a parent club is what stands behind it: experienced Rotarians who mentor our members, vouch for our projects, and connect us to a global community of more than 200,000 Rotaractors in over 170 countries.

In practice, that looks like a few hours most weekends: a clean-up on the ghats, a blood camp, a workshop for final-year students, or a fellowship evening where we argue happily about what to do next.

PHF PP Rtr. P. Devendra Naga Sai

PHF PP Rtr. P. Devendra Naga Sai began his Rotaract journey in 2015 with the Rotaract Club of Gayatri Vidya Parishad — today our twin club. From service initiatives he progressed through several leadership roles — Board Member, Chairman for Water & Sanitation, District Rotaract Secretary of RID 3020, Charter President, Mentor, Deputy DRR and Rotary Youth Exchange Chair.

He founded the Rotaract Club of Rajahmundry River City and led initiatives including Project Thalassemia, AA“KALI”YUG — Feed the Need, Project Chaitanyam, End Polio Now, Vanmahotsav and Godavari Prakshalana. He also organised the District Marathon 5K Run, which brought together nearly 5,000 participants.

His contributions have earned him the Best President Award and the Sri Kandukuri Veeresalingam Panthulu Garu Award for Excellence in Social Service. He is currently the District Rotaract Representative Nominee, continuing his journey of service and leadership in Rotaract.

The programme

What is Rotaract?

Rotaract stands for Rotary in Action. It is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young adults aged 18 and above. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and are sponsored by local Rotary clubs or by other Rotaract clubs.

Modelled after the goals and standards of Rotary, Rotaract brings together college students and young professionals for humanitarian service, networking, building goodwill and promoting peace around the world. As one of the fastest-growing Rotary programmes, Rotaract has a strong international presence, with more than 10,690 clubs across 180 countries.

Each club has its own personality, sometimes with a special emphasis of its own. Like Rotary, Rotaract clubs are nonpolitical and nonreligious, and welcome anyone interested in joining.

What is Rotary International?

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Founded in 1905 by Paul P. Harris in Chicago, Rotary has grown into one of the world’s largest humanitarian organisations, with over 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

Rotary members are called Rotarians, and they are united by the motto “Service Above Self”. The Four-Way Test guides Rotarians in their personal and professional lives.

The Four-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and better friendships?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Where it all began

Our founder: Paul Percy Harris

Paul Percy Harris founded Rotary on 23 February 1905 in Chicago, Illinois. As a young lawyer new to the city, Harris missed the friendly spirit and camaraderie he had known in the small towns of his youth.

To recreate that sense of fellowship he invited three business acquaintances — Silvester Schiele, Gustavus Loehr and Hiram Shorey — to meet in Loehr’s office. That gathering became the first meeting of what would grow into Rotary International.

The name “Rotary” came from the early practice of rotating gatherings among members’ offices and businesses. Over the next century Rotary grew from that single evening into one of the world’s largest and most respected humanitarian organisations.

Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves. — Paul P. Harris

In case this is all new to you

Rotaract is Rotary International’s programme for young adults. Clubs are self-governing and self-financing — members decide the projects, raise the funds and run them.

Who can join

Anyone aged 18 to 30 — students, working professionals, or people running a business of their own. No prior connection to Rotary needed.

What it costs

A modest annual membership fee. It covers Rotary International dues and the district administrative fund, which every Rotaract club pays into.

What you get

Real leadership experience, a certificate-backed record of service, good friendships, and a network that outlasts your thirtieth birthday.

How we run

How the club is organised

The board

A President, Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President, plus a director for each avenue of service — elected fresh every Rotary year.

Fellowship

Service is only half of it. The friendships that come out of a club like this are the part members still talk about years afterwards.

Come along

Projects

Any member can propose a project. If it fits an avenue of service and the club votes it through, it happens — often within the month.

Curious? Come and see for yourself.

Come along to a project before you commit to anything. No pressure, nothing to sign.
